I have questions. . .
How much experience do I need to get started?
We welcome all levels of experience.
You do not need any martial arts experience to start your training.
In fact, if you have some martial arts experience then you may have to “unlearn” some of your body habits.
Come with a beginner’s mind and you will be all set!
Am I too old or too young to start aikido?
We don’t think it’s ever too late to start aikido. That’s one of the things that makes this art so accessible!
The adults classes are for anyone from 13 to 100! Although you do need to be fit enough for sustained exercise, you can really practice aikido for most of your life.
We have kids & family classes that welcome children from 6 - 13 years of age. Children 6-7 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the mat.
How do beginners fit into the class?
We occasionally offer a beginners class to teach some of the basic skills
Most of the time, beginners join the regular classes. Senior students provide guidance on what to do (including basic etiquette and techniques).
What clothing or equipment do I need to get started?
For the first few weeks, comfortable activewear or “gym” clothes will work. We recommend pants that cover the knees and long-sleeve shirts.
After a few weeks, you should purchase a gi. We do have some at the dojo that you can purchase. Otherwise, you can purchase an aikido or judo gi online (white).
For weapons classes - we do have some bokkens and jos that you may borrow during class. Eventually, you will want to purchase your own.
How much does it cost to practice at your dojo?
Adult classes
Dues are $90/month
Each additional household member is $60/month
Full-time students are $60/month
Kids and Family classes

(or $160 /quarter)Each additional child is

What does aikido mean?
What does “aikido” mean? The word aikido is derived from the Japanese kanji: 合 (Ai) – harmony/harmonize, 気 (Ki) – spirit or life force, and 道 (Do) – the Way. In English, a common translation would read, “the way of harmony of the spirit.”
