“I started aikido when I was 64. I was disgusted with my freeze responses and fear of falling. I had broken my back several years earlier when I was bucked off my horse. I had never heard of aikido but a horse clinician introduced aikido as a way to develop blending and harmony with a partner, whether that partner is a person or a horse. So, I started aikido. When I attempted to take my first back fall, I cried. In aikido we learn to take many falls. Already these are two reasons to begin studying aikido: 1. Learn how to fall. 2. Learn to blend with the movement of a partner. I have found Albuquerque Shin Budo Kai to be a safe dojo. I have found this dojo to be supportive of my growth, my learning, and my connection to a diverse community.”
